Political Art
At least within the United States, Latinos have faced many issues with politics and have expressed these issues through art. Murals are very popular ways that artists express their viewpoints and can range from both sides of the radical.
Black brown unity mural
Assistant Professor of Sociology Agustin Lao-Montes at University of Massachusetts at Amherst commented on this mural, making connections among the different backgrounds of how Latinos can been seen differently based on their skin color. Basically, that someone can identify as a Latino, but have black skin and all the sociological aspects that go into that and the political roles it plays.
"Cholo" President
This was a homemade poster that was made simply to get the idea to vote out among the Latino community. The idea to make President Obama into a "cholo" as referred to by the artist, David Cordova, was to help take away any tensions between the black and brown communities. By taking away the color of his skin and making him more relatable to the Latino community, he was able to help promote his efforts with the Obama campaign and if not support for Obama, to at least get more voters out there.
